Energy Efficiency Improvement CertificationThe Energy Policy Act (EPAct), enacted in 2005, and recently extended to 2013, provides tax benefits for independently certified energy efficiency improvements. EPAct could potentially save you hundreds of thousands of dollars on your taxes. Such savings are a result of tax deductions for energy efficiency improvements that you have done to your facilities sinceMaximum savings are currently $1.80 per square foot for qualified facilities, and may soon be increased. The following excerpt is from an e-mail summarizing our recent analysis of a lighting retrofit project:
"As you see from the attached Preliminary Energy Tax Deduction Study, we anticipate that you will be able to claim the maximum deduction of $0.60 per sq. ft. for your lighting retrofit.
For 239,716 sq. ft. the tax deduction would be $143,829.60, recouping a significant amount of the $148,981.91 that you spent on the project."
The IRS has established stringent rules on how your allowed deductions must be computed. An independent and licensed engineering firm, utilizing approved software and procedures, must compute and certify the benefit to which you are entitled. We prepare a highly detailed and certified report for your CPA that provides the necessary justification for your deduction, in the event your tax return is audited and the IRS requests such details. TDI Consulting, Inc. (TDI) is an affiliate of a premier engineering firm certified to provide these specialized services. Our services include audit protection in the event our results are challenged by the IRS and are backed by a Lloyds of London insurance policy. With TDI, you can be confident that you're taking maximum advantage of EPAct tax benefits. Related Links
